国际学生任课教师应知应会Teachers Handbook

Purpose of the Handbook

This handbook provides faculty members with essential policies, teaching guidelines, and institutional expectations to ensure academic excellence and professional growth.

1. Faculty Roles & Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality, research-informed instruction.

Develop syllabi aligned with program learning outcomes.

Assess student performance fairly and consistently.

Participate in departmental and institutional service.

Stay current in their discipline through professional development.

2. Academic Policies & Procedures

Course Design & Syllabus Requirements

Syllabi must include:

Course objectives & learning outcomes

Grading breakdown

Attendance & late work policies

Academic integrity statement

Disability accommodations statement

Grading & Assessment

Clear rubrics should be provided for major assignments.

Final grades must be submitted by the institutional deadline.

Academic Integrity

Define plagiarism, cheating, and consequences.

Report violations to the academic integrity committee.

3. Teaching & Pedagogy

Effective Teaching Strategies

Use active learning techniques (discussions, case studies, group work).

Incorporate formative assessments (quizzes, reflections).

Leverage technology (LMS, multimedia, simulations).

Inclusive Teaching Practices

Ensure materials are accessible (captioned videos, readable fonts).

Encourage diverse perspectives in discussions.

4. Student Support & Accessibility

Refer students to tutoring, counseling, or disability services as needed.

Follow ADA guidelines for accommodations (extended time, note-takers).

5. Professional Responsibilities

Hold at least 3-5 office hours per week.

Participate in faculty governance (committees, curriculum development).

6. Faculty Evaluation & Development

Student evaluations are conducted each semester.

Peer reviews may be required for tenure-track faculty.

7. Ethical & Legal Considerations

Never discuss student grades publicly.

Mandatory reporting of harassment/discrimination.
